A healthy 34-year-old man, a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete, presented with daily pain and discomfort. A cyst developed two years after endodontic treatment of teeth #21 (9), #22 (10), and #23 (11), which had been performed following facial trauma sustained during MMA training.
Radiographic examination revealed a large bone defect with damage to both cortical plates. We performed root resection of teeth #21 (9), #22 (10), and #23 (11), and backfilled the root canals with MTA. After cyst enucleation, the cyst is sent for histopathological examination, which confirmed a radicular cyst. Filling of the bone defect with 3 cc of Bond Apatite®.
At the six-year follow-up, we observed good bone remodeling and healing, including complete and stable regeneration of both cortical plates.
